Whole School Unit – Community

At Rapid Bay Primary School, we believe in the power of connection and collaboration. Each year, our entire school community embarks on a Whole School Unit — a shared learning journey that unites students from Reception to Year 6 through a common theme or inquiry. This year, our focus is on “Community.”

Our theme of “Community” encourages students to explore what it means to be part of a community, both within the school and beyond. Students will investigate the roles, responsibilities, and relationships that form the backbone of a thriving community. This exploration will include:
The “Our Community” unit is a dynamic educational initiative that engages students from Reception to Year 6 at Rapid Bay Primary School in a comprehensive exploration of their local environment. Through three distinct case studies—focusing on our community’s history, our connection to the environment, and the geographical features of Rapid Bay—students will develop critical thinking, creativity, and a sense of responsibility. Each case study is designed to align with the South Australian Curriculum, fostering key dispositions and capabilities. The unit will culminate in a presentation at our 75-year exhibition and a showcase on our school website, celebrating student achievements and sharing their insights with the broader community.
